Canon USM EF-S
10-22, f/3.5-4.5:
- Equivalent to 16 - 35.2
(35mm format)
- Minimum hand held speeds
(1/f-length): 1/15 – 1/30 sec
- Very little vignetting at
any focal length or aperture
- Adjusting the polarizer for
maximum effect will usually result in uneven sky brightness with any
wide lens. Avoid using polarizer at 10mm
- Sharp across all apertures,
even at f3.5 – slight increase in sharpness at f4.0/5.6
- Little CA, mostly at 10mm end
- Closest Focus: 0.24m / 9½
inches
- Filter Size: 77mm
- Weight: 385g / 13.6 oz
- Field curvature at the wide
end can make it difficult to work with. Bodies like the EOS350D aren’t
accurate enough with focusing to decide that infinity really IS
infinity, so you need to manually focus at 10mm for sharp landscapes
(or use f16)
- If you are using the cokin
system then you can't go all the way out without getting vignetting
from the filter holder
Canon USM EF
28-105 f/3.5-4.5:
- Equivalent to 44.8 – 168
(35mm format)
- Minimum hand held speeds
(1/f-length): 1/45 – 1/168 sec
- Sharp from f5.6, seems best
at f8
- Stop to f8 to suppress soft
edges
- No zoom creep
- Closest Focus: 0.5m / 1.6
ft.
- Filter Size: 58mm
- Weight: 375g / 13.1 oz
Canon USM EF 70-300, f/4-5.6L IS:
- Equivalent to 112 – 480
(35mm format)
- True 4-stop image
stabiliser
- Minimum hand held speeds
(1/f-length): 1/28 – 1/120 sec
- Sharp across the range
- Vignettes at f/4 on a full frame
camera
- Closest Focus: 1.5m / 3.9 ft.
- Filter Size: 67mm
- Weight: 1050g / 2.3 lb
Canon USM EF
100-300, f/4.5-5.6:
- Equivalent to 161 – 480
(35mm format)
- Minimum hand held speeds
(1/f-length): 1/161 – 1/480 sec
- Softer at long end
- Best at f8 - f11
- Dips badly at f22-f32
- Closest Focus: 1.2m / 4.9 ft.
- Filter Size: 58mm
- Weight: 540g / 1.2 lb
